Machine Washable Memory?

My Memory card appears to be machine washable. I would not recommend this stunt, though when removing a load with jeans, etc, I noticed my Lexar Multimedia Card [MMC] in the bottom of the machine. This is just one of many stupid stunts that can happen when you use a digital camera. The picture of the Wave Petunia from my yard proved to me the memory still works after a regular wash load and rinse cycle with fabric softener. Good thing I did not toss it in the dryer. I had wondered where to or how that card had disappeared.

Usually, I take along extra batteries, cameras, film, etc, when I leave home. One never knows when a good shot will present itself. Some digital camera perils I and others may have encountered: Loss of rechargable batteries and battery drawer into a lake, forgetting camera was on roof of car and taking off around a corner in a hurry (hours later camera found in pieces though it still worked well), large memory card left on truck hood while at an outdoor weekend, fully loaded with images and disappeared (not my peril), placing NiMH rechargeable batteries in a pocket with or without loose change or keys (darn things get hot as they make contact and discharge), leaving home wihtout spare batteries or cards and card is full or batteries are dead, leaving behind a tripod (always good to have one in the trunk of vehicle just in case).

Well, thank goodness the memory held up after the wash, but I certainly would not recommend it or drycleaning, either.
