I read something over at Simon's blog regarding registration for news sites. I wish I had seen this earlier. I must have registered with Chicago Tribune online about 3 times or more in the past 5 years (and once again this morning), and theNew York Times at least 2 times, and who knows how many other times I have registered for other free news sites?
www.mpeg4 clips.comA web site BugMeNot allows you to look up your favorite free to use with registration website and use a commonly shared user name and password. I think that is great.
[1] Not sure why I need to register and give my email, unless I wish to. Don't I get enough spam?
[2] Can we be absolutely sure that the FREE site is not sharing our email or information with others online or off? Even if we make sure to read the fine print and indicate we do not want any offers or advertisements?
[3] What about their database that stores info? Is it secure enough? What about stories we hear once in a while about a disgruntled worker with access to the databases selling information to outside sources? Not a huge issue as we could give all sorts of fake personal information except for the email. Though other people may be giving their real info. Many sites require a reply to an email or a special link from an email to access the site or complete the registration process.
BugMeNot also offers an extension for browsers, or a bookmarklet, making the whole process even simpler.
