onto the forested part of this walkvolo bog : spring forest walk

that bbq food smelled so good, and I was wishing to stop over for a bite, however, I had to get some more shots, get home, unload these images onto our network drive and get to work on my projects.

pine cone

tamarack pine alcove
on I went and down the path, and on into the forest, when I spotted an area that looked as if they hold meetings. inside this small forested alcove of tamarack pine trees, were a bunch of worn wood benches placed a few narrow tables. the pines were all around, and it reminded me of standing in a big area of pines in the northwoods of wisconsin when I was young. the bottom areas of the pines had no needles for a distance up the bark, and the floor was carpeted with an orangy mat of fallen pine needles and cones. the aroma of pine needles, especially when you step on them smells great. this very shady little spot was a nice cool area to sit for a minute or two and take a look around.

I thought it would be fun to lay back on one of the benches, listening to music and looking up into the treetops

-- What a view !

a worms eye view from the tamarack pine alcove

I snapped a few shots of some great perspectives looking up into the tall pines. I guess one could say it is an interesting world from a worms eye view, too. just like being a child laying on the ground looking at cloud formations or trees, that is what it felt like. the addition of listening to music like pink floyd's dark side of the moon, adds a special facet, too.

forests are so great, not dark and scary, but shadows of mystery, filled with life, energy, and inner strength, signs of struggle and survival, signs of elder sage and wisdom, signs of generations and regeneration, signs of hope, directions and choice, filtered rays of light even in the darkest spots, examples of much in all living.

tree bark

the textures of bark, display injury, scars, breaks, wear, lightning strikes, new growth, and yet this tree, and many trees take a lot in a lifetime, and continue to grow.

prairie flowers
after my walk around in the forest, I knew I needed to get going soon so I made may way back to the open areas and prairie plants. I have some nice green knee stains on my jeans. many people and kids probably think I am nutty for crawling around the ground and having my face close to the ground. a few others might actually wonder what it is I am looking at or for. some may even take notice of things themselves, one day, and maybe the children will think that some grown up gets on the ground and is looking very close at things, I bet it is ok for me to do, too. I hope so.

it is more than ok to blow on a dandelion, watch an ant army march. see a bee place the pollen on the back of its body and legs, and even pet a big fuzzy bee if you are gentle and careful. so sitting and watching and waiting for that perfect breeze less moment to get a good macro shot is just fine, too. below are a few of the remaining shots I took during my hours at volo bog.

checking the batteries on the camera. I look very tired and my hair is a mess too  well, time to get back to work

before I got home I stopped for something to drink and eat, splash some water on my face, and I was checking my camera batteries when I accidentally took this wonderful picture of myself(sic). I forgot a hairbrush and am looking a bit tired. the other shot was just for the fun of it. and I see I need a haircut again, too.
